Call for Stories re: Voting Issues January 29th - We've received reports of third party voters (from several parties) being led to believe they couldn't vote on the Constitutional Revision on January 29th because they were neither Republican nor Democrat. If you had trouble voting on January 29th, please email ipflcontact@ipfl.org and tell us your story. We are collecting information on the problems arising from closed primaries in Florida, so that we can propose an alternative to Tallahassee.

News & Notes

HBO's documentary "Hacking Democracy" available online

HBO's documentary "Hacking Democracy" has been released online! Slashdot reported that HBO released it in one piece on Google Video, but that site appears to be having some difficulties, so a copy has been posted on YouTube, in nine parts: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9. (Update, 12/18: The YouTube versions appear to have been removed, and the Google Video version still seems to be unresponsive. We still encourage you to watch the documentary on HBO, and if another legitimate source opens up, we'll link it in.)
The documentary includes video footage of the "Hursti Hack" experiment itself. The experiment was arranged by Leon County supervisor of elections Ion Sancho, who was concerned about the possibility of undetectable vote-hacking after an incident in the 2000 presidential election where an electronic voting machine recorded negative 16,022 votes for Al Gore in Volusia County. Kudos to HBO for standing behind this documentary despite vocal objection by Diebold. DVDs are in the works (see http://www.hackingdemocracy.com/).

Protest Song by IPFL member to hit airwaves, Encourages Action

Our chairman, Peter Allen, has just completed production on a protest song that should be hitting the airwaves in the Tampa area over the next couple of weeks. It encourages voters to take action, to take back our land, and not just wait on Uncle Sam.
Update, 11/19/2006: Peter Allen's protest song, "My Uncle Sam", is now available on Broadjam (www.broadjam.com/pax).

A posting made 4/5/2006 discussing the Black Box Voting "Hursti Hack" project, which took place in Leon County, Florida. The project analyzed Diebold election systems, and revealed the existence of interpreted code and memory card security vulnerabilities, and demonstrated the hacking of one of the most widely used U.S. election systems in the 2004 general election. Includes a transcript of the California Senate Elections Committee Hearing, minutes 150-180 (of 200), which contains reference to the Hursti Hack project.
